I’ ve created this short video that explains what an LLM is, how it is built and how it works. This is a non technical explanation for anyone aged 40 years plus that has no technical background, and follows on from the LLM explanation video using a talking parrot. The video transcript and slide show is shown below.

“hello and welcome to my simple explanation videos about LLMs, what they are, how they’re built, and how they work [00:00]. This video is specifically for anyone round about 40 years old or above that has a nontechnical background [00:06].
A Large Language Model (LLM) is an AI that acts as a digital universal library and editorial team [00:12]. It’s built and trained by reading trillions of words to learn language patterns, grammar, and facts. Basically, it’s an advanced software that predicts the next word [00:19]. It understands patterns but does not understand meaning [00:26].
It’s built with billions of connections or threads that mathematically map all language relationships [00:33]. It’s trained or works by reading trillions of words that it can absorb and understand the patterns that make grammar, facts, and context [00:33].
It’s an excellent productivity tool for summarizing documents and providing high-quality writing systems [00:40], but it does have weaknesses. It can be prone to make up facts, which are called hallucinations [00:48], and the knowledge it has is static and it’s not real-time updated [00:53].
What it can do is help you to perform high-level drafting for reports, summaries, and create explanations of complex concepts [00:58]. What it cannot do is think or feel [01:05]. LLMs require human fact-checking for all critical output [01:05].
Now, if you do want a simpler explanation of what an LLM is, please see this video that I’ve shown below [01:12]. If not, please leave any questions or comments and I will get back to you. Thanks for your time, bye [01:17].”
